Award Nomination

The enhanced recovery team at Spire Hospital Cardiff and myself have been nominated for the prestigious Laing-Buission Awards for innovation in healthcare for work we have submitted on early discharge after hip and knee replacement. We have recently shown an average stay of 2 days in over 300 patients for hip and knee replacement performed by a range of teams at Spire Cardiff compared to 6-7 days at a neighbouring institution for similar groups of patients. This is testament to the excellent quality of physiotherapy and education given to patients both pre and post operatively as well as use of enhanced recovery anaesthetics and improved surgical techniques. It truly is a multidisciplinary achievement and credit to the hard work of everyone at the hospital.
